National President's Newsletter - 2020 December

As we near the end of a very tumultuous year in 2020, and with our AGM and National Symposium now behind us, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on some important initiatives that have happened in your IMC, highlight those that are planned for 2021 and wish you all well for the coming Festive Season.

A New IMC Constitution

Your Federal Council had the opportunity this year to refresh, transform, and align IMC’s governance model to current best practices operating within Australian professional organisations. In line with this, the IMC Federal Council (now Board) agreed to develop and adopt a new Constitution which was overwhelmingly supported by voting members at the recent National AGM.

An initiative is commencing shortly to create comprehensive and transparent by-laws to underpin the Constitution. This will enable all members of the Institute to have visibility on our governance processes and practices including at Chapter level, as well as on our membership arrangements. These will be published on our website.

The New IMC Website

Our new web platform has a fresh and contemporary look and feel. As well as being mobile responsive, the site will allow for greater interaction with your Institute and other members including through “Member-to-Member” and “Find a Consultant” facilities which will be implemented in the coming weeks.

Current features include the “My IMC” and “My Account” pages as well as an “Events Calendar”. “My IMC” will provide you with a snapshot of your recent engagement with the Institute including your upcoming events and items of interest as well as the option to edit your profile. “My Account” will give you instant access to your transactions and important member contact details to ensure we can keep in touch with you. The “Events Calendar” will allow you to plan your professional development activities and register for events in advance and includes the facility to add these to your own personal calendar – so you never miss an important upcoming IMC event!

Please take the time to explore the website.

PD and Events

A national events program and professional development strategy have been developed.  The PD strategy provides an integrated framework for professional development from those new to consulting right through to experienced consultants seeking certifications and accreditations.  It includes a consultants’ “Start-up Series”, a Diploma of Consulting, ISO 20700 certification, Consultant Roundtables and the CMC certification process.

To add to your knowledge base, you can also expect to see a range of researched publications being developed specifically for IMC members and available through our website.

We are maximising our new digital capability and media platforms to present high level events featuring quality speakers from around Australia and the world. Our recent virtual IMC National Symposium was a first for the IMC here in Australia and was a huge success.

Vale – Dr John Mills

It is with much sadness that I inform you and the IMC community of the passing of a great member of the management consulting fraternity, Dr John Mills
John was a past executive officer and committee member of what was the IMCA back in the 1970’s. John was instrumental in many of our longest serving members joining the Institute.

I would like to acknowledge John’s contribution to our profession and, on behalf of the Institute, extend my condolences to his partner Margaret Mills, who is also a director of their joint consultancy business which has been an outstanding contributor to our profession.

We can look ahead to 2021 with a great deal of optimism and excitement as the economy and businesses rebound.  I take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy festive season.
